Mr. Nadeem Hussain

Nadeem Hussain is the Chairperson of Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN) and founder, CEO and President of Tameer Bank, Pakistan’s first private sector microfinance bank and world leader in branchless banking. Hussain’s model bank has impacted over 10 million people by extending credit and mobile banking to the poor and the unbanked Pakistan, and has introduced the first stand-alone health insurance program in rural areas to protect poor households from falling below the poverty line.

Hussain is on the advisory Board of the Institute of Business Administration, He is the Board of the Pakistan Microfinance Network, Board of the Institute of Capital Markets, Trustee of Indus Foundation, Trustee of the Jinnah Institute and an active member of the State Banks and SECP consultative group.

He has been in international banking for 27 years in Citibank/Citigroup in seven different countries and all major financial centers of the world. Mr. Hussain has, during his Citibank Career worked in Corporate Banking, Consumer Banking, Risk Management, Insurance, Transaction Banking and Treasury and a member board of the Honk Kong Commodities Exchange. For the past 8 years he has managed Tameer Bank.

Hussain has been chair of the United Nation’s MDG Session on Financial Inclusion in New York in September 2010, and is a frequent speaker at international forums on branchless banking and Microfinance. He writes and broadcasts frequently in Pakistan’s mainstream media on micro finance, financial exclusion, alternative energy, low cost housing and health insurance.

He was awarded the Global leader award in 2011 by C5 in Geneva.

Mr. Anwar Rashid
Executive Director
Orangi Pilot Project

Mr Anwar Rashid is one of the founding members of Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN). Mr Anwar Rashid in addition of being the Vice Chairman of PMN Board, is also member of sub-committees of the Board; Policy Committee and Audit Committee.

 Mr Anwar Rashid joined OPP in 1982 as a researcher & evaluator in the field of social and physical development. He was promoted Joint Director OPP in 1986. He has been overseeing Orangi Charitable Trust (OCT) since 1995. In addition of being on the Board of OPP-KHASDA and OPP-RTI, Mr Anwar Rashid also sits on the Board of Organization for Participatory Development (OPD), Soon Valley Development Program (SVDP) and SAIBAN.

 Mr Anwar Rashid holds a Masters degree in Economics from the Karachi University. Following his Masters, he was attached with the Karachi University as a lecturer in the Department of Economics (1979 to 1982). He has also been a Guest Speaker on different events organized by LUMS, LEADS, NIPA and Karachi University on topics of community and social development. Mr Anwar Rashid has authored and co-authored a number of publications such as “Khajji Cooperative Society – a partner of OPP-OCT” (2005), “Health Survey of Orangi and Thikri” (1991), “Working with Community – Principles and methods” (1992), “Maintenance and rectification – Evaluation of lane sanitation” (1992), Micro Enterprise Credit Program – As a means of empowerment” (1995) and “Partnership in development – Low cost sanitation program” (1995).

Mr. Ghalib Nishtar
Khushhali Bank

Ghalib Nishtar is the founding president of Khushhalibank, Pakistan’s largest microfinance bank. He is regarded as the pioneer microfinance banker of Pakistan’s burgeoning microfinance industry, and has been a critical force in demonstrating the success of microfinance in Pakistan with Khushhalibank as a leading benchmark. He was part of the process initiated by the Government of Pakistan to reform the financial sector under the Microfinance Sector Development Program in 2000. Under his leadership Khushhalibank has emerged as Pakistan’s premier microfinance Institution with a nationwide outreach; Pakistan now ranks amongst the top three countries on the Economist intelligence Unit’s Global index.

Recent accomplishments include successful steering of the divestment process of Khushhalibank as a consequence of which the bank was able to attract investment from leading global investors at a premium demonstrating the strength of the Institution.

Ghalib Nishtar has over 20 years of prior management experience commencing with Bank of America in 82’ and concluding with the National Bank of Pakistan, the country’s largest commercial bank as its Senior Executive Vice President.

He serves on many Boards and Steering Committees; has represented the Bank at Summits, Conference and meetings at National and International forums and contributes regularly towards print media on issues of financial Inclusion for the poor.

He holds a Master’s degree in Information Technology from the Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad and is the recipient Sitara-i-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s highest presidential civil awards.

Mr. Mosharrof Hussain
Country Manager

Mr Mosharrof holds a master’s degree in Economics from Dhaka University, Bangladesh in the Year 1988. He joined ASA International and has been working as a CEO of ASA Pakistan since August 2008 to date.

 He initially ASA as an area supervisor in 1991 and since then has been closely associated with the implementation of ASA’s microfinance program, impact assessment team and Management monitoring team in addition to many other job responsibilities in and outside Bangladesh.

 He has also provided consultancy for one year under UNDP program for strengthening Microfinance Services Mechanism in Philippines. After showing the tremendous performance Mr. Hossain was subsequently hired for another two years under bilateral agreement between ASA Bangladesh & CARD Inc. the leading Microfinance services provider in the Philippines, to strengthen the Micro-Service Delivery System, Human Resources Management System, Monitoring & Supervision System, Financial Controls System, Accounting & Record-Keeping System as well as the Management Information System.

 During his stay with CARD, Mr. Hossain achieved a commendable target of opening over 100 branches with more than 100,000 borrowers and zero PAR.

 He has also attended various conferences which include Global Microcredit Summit 2012 held in Spain. He also attended the D-8 Microfinance Experts workshop held in Nov. 2012. This has developed the recommendations for enhancement the Microfinance activities in the member countries.

Mr. Mudassar Aqil

M. Mudassar Aqil is the CEO of FINCA Microfinance Bank Ltd. since 2011. He has overseen the bank’s rapid growth and its recent acquisition by FINCA which makes the bank part of a network of microfinance institutions in 23 countries across the world and opens new doors of innovation and growth for the bank. Since its inception 5 years ago, FINCA Microfinance Bank has given over 130,000 small loans to micro enterprises to grow their businesses and disbursed over 7 billion rupees and helped create thousands of new jobs. FINCA is considered the pioneer of cash flow based clean lending in Pakistan and has the distinction of highest average loan ticket size in clean lending in the Pakistan microfinance sector.

 Mudassar is a banking industry veteran. Prior to joining FINCA, he worked for 14 years at leading commercial banks in Pakistan and the United States. Before joining FINCA, Mudassar was with Bank ALFALAH for 5 years as General Manager. Prior to that he served at M&T Bank – a Fortune 500 Company in the United States, for 8 years where as Vice President he held important positions in the areas of Operations, Strategy and Marketing.

 Mudassar is also a frequent presenter at various conferences and serves as a director on the board of Pakistan Microfinance Network. He holds an MBA from Salisbury University, Maryland

Dr. Rashid Bajwa
National Rural Support Program

Dr. Rashid Bajwa is Chief Executive Officer of National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) since 1996. Under his leadership, NRSP transformed part of its portfolio into the NRSP Microfinance Bank Ltd.

Dr. Bajwa is also associated with other Provincial Rural Support Programs and is a member of the BOD of many RSPs.  He is an advisor to the RSPN. He is also serving as an independent Director of Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim Limited since August 26, 2010. He has professional experience of Microfinance and development specialist.

Dr. Bajwa is an Ex-Member of Civil Service of Pakistan (DMG) from 1986 to 1993 and has worked in different positions and levels of the Government. Dr. Bajwa has a degree in Medicine from KEMC (MBBS) and USA (MD) and a Master in Public Health from Nuffield School of Heath, University of Leeds, UK where he received a distinction and commendation by HM the Queen.

Mr. Amir Khan
First Microfinance Bank

Amir Masood Khan is a seasoned banker having diversified experience of over 22 years in consumer and commercial banking. He joined The First MicroFinanceBank Ltd Pakistan in March 2012 as Advisor of the Chairman and was later assigned the role of Chief Executive Officer in June 2012.

 He has worked at senior level positions with the Standard Chartered Bank, ABN Amro Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland. Prior to joining the FMFB-P, he was the CEO of Waseela Microfinance Bank and played a leading role to set up the Bank. He has an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.

Mr. Muhammad Murtaza
Rural Community Development Society

Mr. Muhammad Murtaza founder of the Rural Community Development Society (RCDS) and selected as Executive Director (RCDS) since inception 1995, and on board of organizations Pakistan Microfinance Network (PMN) Agribusiness supports funds (ASF). He holds an LLB degree from Punjab University. He has extensive experience in the field s of Management, Social Mobilization, Community Development, Microfinance and Policy. He is serving as President Executive Committee, Punjab Vocational Training Institute District Nankana Sahib. He is one of the founding members of Punjab Micro Finance Network (PMFN) and also providing goodness other nonprofit organization as CEO PMFN and actively involved in forming people's organizations at grass roots mostly in rural and disadvantaged communities in Punjab. Developing innovative programs and seeing through actual implementation of these programs all across the country.

 He has got national and international trainings regarding the development sector and gave the consultancy services to development sector organization. His areas of expertise include poverty alleviation, microfinance, social mobilization and project management.

He is author of different manual of the organization development and is well known social worker. He has attended many national and international conferences and represented organization at different forums.

 Mr. Muhammad Murtaza is founder of RCDS, first ever interest on the integrated development program. These programs operate from in the sixteen district of the Punjab and have opened new vistas in the domain of social mobilization and poverty alleviation. He is RCDS’s Executive Director and main driving force since its inception in year 1995

 Mr. Muhammad Murtaza has a wide range of development experience; he is boulder graduate and having working experience with national & international level organizations. Mr. Muhammad Murtaza has won many awards and recognitions for his contributions to the field of microfinance, Poverty alleviation and women empowerment.

Mr. S Akbar Zaidi

Professor Dr S Akbar Zaidi is a political economist with interests in political economy, development, the social sciences more generally, and increasingly, history.

 He has taught at Karachi University and at Johns Hopkins University, and has been a Visiting Professor at Columbia University, New York since 2010, where he currently has a joint position at SIPA (the School of International and Public Affairs), and at MESAAS (the Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies). He is also an Adjunct Professor at the IBA, Karachi.

 He has written over seventy academic articles in international journals and as chapters in books, as well as numerous books and monographs.

 Amongst his books, are: Military, Civil Society and Democratization in Pakistan (2011), The New Development Paradigm: Papers on Institutions, NGOs, Gender and Local Government (1999), and Pakistan's Economic and Social Development: The Domestic, Regional and Global Context (2004). His latest book is Issues in Pakistan's Economy: A Political Economy Perspective published by Oxford University Press in early 2015.

Mr. Faisal Ijaz Khan

Mr. Faisal Ejaz Khan brings with him rich experience of Financial Services Industry. He has held responsibilities in Private Banking, Corporate Banking and Banking Operations during his past roles in Emirates Bank International PJSC, SME Bank Limited and MCB Bank Limited in various capacities.

 He has an MBA with a specialization in ‘Change Management and Technology’ and also holds an M. Phil. in ‘Management and Information Technology’ from France.

 Faisal was with Oracle Corporation based in Karachi as Regional Business Manager, Financial Services Industry for seven countries in South Asia. In Oracle he was responsible for solution sales of Oracle technology and applications for Corporate Performance Management, Risk Management/ BASEL II and Customer Relationship Management. 

 He has had a focus on deployment of Sungard’s Core Banking Application in MCB Bank Ltd. He achieved a milestone of 1100 plus branches on the new system across Pakistan and completed the roll out of Sungard’s Application in MCB Sri Lanka Operations and Sungard’s Islamic Core Banking System in MCB Islamic Banking Branches in Pakistan.

 Currently, Mr. Faisal Ejaz Khan is the Chief Executive Officer of 1Link Guarantee Limited.

 He is a highly seasoned business leader with a strong track record of strategic thinking, hands-on execution and building strong teams who collaborate to improve the customer experience.

Mubarak Ali Sarwar

Mubarak Ali Sarwar holds Masters Degree in Social Work from University of the Punjab, Lahore, He is a founding member of Association for Gender Awareness & Human Empowerment (AGAHE) and currently working as CEO AGAHE since January 2010 for poverty alleviation in deprived communities of Pakistan. He has exposure of national & international organizations in the area of Micro Finance, Livelihood, WASH& Disaster Management. Mr. Mubarakhas more than 18 years of experience in development sector and responsible to oversees the all programs of AGAHE in Punjab & KPK provinces.

During his career; he has a diverse experience of working closely with the marginalized communities, civil society organizations, networks & alliances, government, academia, and media where his key responsibilities included; planning, review & implementation, advocacy & research.He is part of different national & International forums & alliances. He also delivered number of trainings on Social Mobilization, Organizational Management, Communication Skills&Portfolio Management at various level. 

Dr. Salam Memon
Thardeep Rural Development Program

Dr Salam holds a doctorate degree in Agriculture and Applied Economics from Texas Tech University, USA. With an experience expanding over two decades, Dr Salam Memon took charge of Thardeep Rural Development Program (TRDP) in January 2015.

 A Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Dr Salam has an experience of more than ten years in development sector internationally and nationally in the capacity of results-driven business project leader, project management, project coordination, administration, monitoring and controlling.

 Before joining TRDP, Dr Salam worked as a Freelance Project Management Consultant (Milton). He was also involved in World Bank funded projects of Sindh Water Sector Improvement Project ($175 million) and National Drainage Program ($525 million) between 1998 and 2010 in the capacity of Project Director, Monitoring and Evaluation.

Dr. Amjad Saqib
Executive Director

Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib is a social entrepreneur, volunteer and development professional. He joined civil service of Pakistan (DMG) in 1985. He obtained Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship, in public administration from the American University, Washington D.C., USA. He resigned from civil service in 2003. Since then, besides rendering philanthropic and social services, he has been providing consultancy services to International Organization. His areas of expertise include poverty alleviation, microfinance, social mobilization and education management. He is author of four books.

 Dr. Saqib is founder of Akhuwat, first ever interest free microfinance programme. Keeping in view his volunteer services for poverty alleviation, he has been requested by the Government of the Punjab to lead two of its flagship programmes i.e. Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) and Punjab Welfare Trust for the Disabled (PWTD). President of Pakistan bestowed on him “Sitara-a-Imtiaz”, a coveted civil award on 23 March, 2010.
